"And (n)one"

This is an urgent request to all pick-up basketball players out there. . . .

Stop referring to your fouls as "and one's" when your shot hasn't even fallen yet. Because it usually misses.

I know, I know. It sounds much cooler. But there's no need for an "and" if you brick.

And if you do make your shot, there's no need for a "one" either. There's no whistle-blowing ref who drops their fist with a stamp of approval for your "and one." There's no roaring crowd or brotherly teammates high-fiving you on their way to the free throw line.

There's you, shutting up. Turning around, running to the other side of the court. And playing defense.

And none.
