she sets goals.
she doesn't just know what she wants, she makes a plan and commits to every step of it until she reaches the end.
for example, i've been watching her study a lot of the lsat these past couple months. i listen to her talking about studying, and it's tough on her sometimes. so tough that i know if it were me, i would've said fuck this law school shit by week 3.
not her though.
she humbles herself and asks for help. instead of spending 2 hours gorging on the finest fast foods and starbucks lattes with me, she locks herself away for even longer to study. and you know, spending time with me is so gosh darn hard to resist.
she sticks to her goal, makes the adjustments, and she sees the differences.
i never really set goals. i tell myself if i just try hard, i'll be successful. that worked like the 10% of the time i tried hard, but the other 90% of the time was just languishing in self-pity for knowing i could do better. it took me a while to figure out that trying hard needs direction or else you're just a hamster in a wheel, like those cute little kia soul commercials.
i may not have the long-term directions down, but some pre-determined stops along the way won't hurt. it should get me farther than where i've gotten after all this time now. and i hope katrina's there with me, cause being with her helps me accept that.
