i spent a lot of time with my mom the past 2 days because she's off from work too. yesterday she went on a buying bonanza for our kitchen and bathrooms. with the indefinite postponement of my parents moving to the PI, my mom's giving most of the house a facelift.
anyway, being around my mom for an extended period of time is good for the soul. i can't remember the last time i went shopping with her. reminds me of the times she had to drag me and lance to the mall while pops was out to sea. she had to promise to buy us a toy from KB if we were good. we were never good. but she bought us a toy anyway. lucky for her, i have a blackberry now, so there's somewhere to direct my impatient childish energy.
got some more blasts from the past when we were cleaning out the kitchen cupboards today. i found a horrible looking mug that i must've painted in school. i drew a pretty lousy donatello (the turtle of course), and i wrote my name in handwriting that looks more like arabic. i also found some earthquake kit my parents had to put together for me. it included some kleenex, a nonflammable blanket, a comforting note and a picture of us from 1994.
since my parents are sticking around, they want to clean out more boxes and shit. so hopefully i'll discover more historic gems.
today i took aivan to islands and nickel city, two more staples of my family's past that i get to now share with them. i've had the privilege of taking those two out for a couple years now, and they really are the best-behaved kids wherever we go. they are pretty much the anti-pat&cheech.
my time in SD ends tomorrow with breakfast at ihop with a few of the friends. as the time goes by it gets harder and harder for us to find a place and time where everyone can and wants to go. so i'm cherishing the few hangouts we have. during the break we had hodad's (not all it's cracked up to be), played some ball, and the guys had a night at starbucks. i believe our secret santa exchange next week will be our 11th! shit!
wow, that was longer than i thought!
